60-minute Introduction to Krav Maga

Our 60-minute beginner Krav Maga classes are designed to introduce you to the fundamental concepts upon which Krav Maga is based, along with some of the foundational techniques of the system, including solutions to both unarmed and armed attacks/threats. This is a physical “hands-on” class, with participants training together, to practice the techniques that are taught and demonstrated. Whilst this class doesn’t require individuals to be extremely fit those attending will be moving for the vast majority of it. This class/seminar serves two purposes and potential audiences: a) those who are just interested in seeing what Krav Maga looks like and how and why it is so effective as a system of self-defense, and b) equipping people with the necessary skills to join the school and take part in our regular Krav Maga classes e.g., participants will learn to take part in some of the drills we commonly use, along with how to hold pads etc. The cost of this 60-minute introductory Krav Maga class/seminar is $25. If you would like to sign up/register and see when the next class is being held, use the button below.

The class/seminar is organized and structured in the same way as our regular Krav Maga classes, with segments involving the “fighting games” Krav Maga uses as a warm-up (the idea of a Krav Maga class is to have students developing fighting skills, such as movement, control of range, blocking etc., the moment a class begins i.e., our classes don’t start with 10 to 15 minutes of calisthenics involving push-ups, squats and sit-ups etc.). The purpose of these “games” is explained, along with the way in which they were developed by the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). After running through these drills and games, which may involve drills against multiple attackers as well as single ones – Krav Maga works from the assumption that an attacker is potentially armed, able, and assisted – attendees are taught how to generate power through strikes and punches. It is in this section of the class that those attending are taught how to hold pads safely and train in a way that is safe and non-injurious.

Throughout this process attendees are introduced to the underlying concepts that create and define Krav Maga techniques. Krav Maga is not simply a collection of techniques taken from various martial arts, it is a system based around some fundamental concepts and ideas, and it is these that make it such an effective system of self-defense/fighting. It is also the way that Krav Maga is taught with the techniques being used to explain the concepts and vice versa. In the next section of this class/seminar, attendees are shown and get to practice how to deal with different unarmed and armed attacks, using almost the identical, same technique. This underlies the way that Krav Maga re-uses the same movements to deal with different threats and attacks, so that practitioners get there 10 000 repetitions needed to “master” a movement quickly.

Just as the goal of Krav Maga is to get an untrained individual combat ready in the shortest possible time, the goal of this class/seminar is to get an attendee ready to join our regular classes, so that they can hit the ground running, when they start training in our program. These classes are held at the address below, and you can use the form below it to register.
